Crowns
Whilst there are a number of ways to protect and/or restored damaged teeth, often the most appropriate modality is the use of crowns. These restorations are fabricated in precious gold alloy or porcelain (or a combination) to ensure that the underlying tooth is well-protected and looks as natural as possible.
This patient presented with a discoloured tooth which required coverage.
A porcelain crown was fabricated to match the adjacent tooth in shape and colour.
Whilst we usually recommend and endeavor to match neighbouring teeth perfectly, this patient understandably requested that the white spot on the next door incisor not be replicated.
This patient was unhappy with the dark line which had appeared slowly at the top of her crown. Many old crowns can develop this darkening at the gumline, and may pose an aesthetic problem.
The existing crown was removed, and a new porcelain crown was made to fit under the gumline.
This patient's existing restorations were uneven and unsightly.
Some types of porcelain crowns are more translucent, producing a more natural look for existing teeth.
A symmetrical and harmonious outcome was achieved.
This existing crown was unsightly due to its dark margin (where the crown meets the tooth) as the gums recede over time.
A new crown was made to hide the existing crown margin.
This young person had an accident leading to the loss her upper right incisor and damage to her upper left existing crown. An implant was placed to replace the lost tooth.
Shade matching.
Measurement of the adjacent teeth revealed a discrepancy in the dimensions of the existing crown.
Measurement of the adjacent teeth revealed a discrepancy in the dimensions of the existing crown.
A porcelain/metal implant crown and a porcelain crown were made simultaneously.
Both crowns were seated to create a symmetrical and harmonious result.
This patient had multiple heavily filled teeth alongside an existing crown, leading to an uneven look.
Porcelain veneers and crowns were made on the surrounding teeth.
A final harmonious and balanced look.
Following removal of an old metal filling, crack lines were visible through the microscope in the underlying tooth structure.
The adjacent molar also displayed a fracture line under an old filling.
Gold crowns and partial crowns are the best way to protect back teeth due to their high strength and reliability.
